Alokait Joyce Brenda; The first graduate of Shine International
Alokait Joyce Brenda, born into a family of eight, faced adversity from an early age. Her father passed away in 2006 when she was just in top class (Pre-School/Nursery), and her mother struggled to take care of her and her siblings as a peasant farmer in Mudakori, Tororo District, leading to financial hardships. Her mother educated her up to Primary Seven. Despite all these challenges, Alokait emerged as the first graduate of Shine International on January 30th, 2024, marking a milestone not just for herself but for the entire community of Mudakori.
Shine International recognized Alokait’s potential and stepped in during her Senior One, providing the mentorship, care, and financial support needed for her to thrive. From Senior One to the Ivory Tower (Makerere University), Alokait pursued a Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition, and her commitment and hard work have not only paved the way for her success but also served as an inspiration to other young minds facing similar challenges.
Alokait’s academic journey under Shine International’s wing was about fostering growth and empowering her to dream beyond her circumstances. Her graduation is a celebration of the collective efforts of Shine International, her family, and the community of Mudakori that rallied behind her. Losing her father and brother at a young age and witnessing her mother’s struggle to provide basic education up to Primary Seven, Alokait’s success stands as a testament to the sacrifices her family made and the resilience ingrained in her character.
As Alokait steps into the next chapter of her life with a degree in Human Nutrition, she carries with her the transformative impact of Shine International’s support. Her story is a beacon of hope for Tororo and Uganda at large, demonstrating that every child, regardless of their circumstances, deserves the chance to shine. Today, we celebrate not just a graduation but the emergence of a shining star who will undoubtedly inspire others to reach for the skies.
